About me
I am passionate about science & technology and believe in the power of technology to change the world and improve quality of life. I am proud to work for Shell where commitment to technology & innovation is at the heart of the business strategy. As the Chief Technology Officer and Executive Vice President Technology for the Shell Group, I lead a global group of scientists and engineers in driving innovation and technology leadership in energy technologies and products. My previous roles in Shell included VP of Global Lubricants, Mobility and Fuels Technology and VP of Global Commercial Technology. Before joining Shell in 2002, I was VP Technology Development and Innovation at Pennzoil-Quaker State Company. In 2017, I was honored to be elected to the National Academy of Engineering in the USA in recognition of my distinguished contributions to engineering. In 2015, I was awarded the STLE International Award – the highest technical honor awarded by the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers. Throughout my career, I have received numerous other awards including STLE Fellow, SASE Career Achievement Award, Business World Energy Leadership Award by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources in Turkey, R&D 100 Innovation Award, SAE International Excellence Award, STLE Captain Alfred E. Hunt Best Paper Award, Penn State (PSU) Outstanding Engineering Alumna Award, Fisita Global Mobility Engineering Technical Leadership Award 2023, and Shell internal awards for both Innovation and Leadership in Diversity and Inclusiveness. I have served as the President of the STLE and the Chairman of the Society of Automotive Engineers Lubricants Research Award Board. I have served as member of the Industrial Advisory Board of PSU Chemical Engineering Department and have served on the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Lubrication Science, UK, and Tribology Transactions, USA. Currently, I serve on the Boards of UH Energy Transition Institute, LSU Energy Innovation Institute, Center for Houston’s Future, Texas Academy of Medicine, Engineering, Science and Technology, PSU Research Foundation and Houston Grand Opera.I received my BSc in Chemical Engineering from the Istanbul Technical University in Turkey and my MSc and PhD also in Chemical Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University, USA. While working in the industry, I have held sabbatical assignments at Imperial College, London in the UK and Honorary Professorship at Tsinghua University in China.
